Mature and Dry Skin Secrets

Are you meeting your skins needs? Do you know what it’s telling you?

These questions can be tough to know how to answer, if you don’t know the signs. But, if you don’t know what to look for in a skincare bottle or tube, you sometimes end up choosing incorrect products….or worse still, none at all.  The world of skincare is overwhelming at the best of times, let alone when you have no idea where to start!  I’m here to share with you mature and dry skin secrets on how to know for sure your skin type so you know what to use to help remedy it.

One thing we can all agree on, dry and mature aging skin is not in fashion.  So rather than spend money on something you think will address your concerns, take the next few minutes to let me help explain to you some basics that will get you on the right track for a more hydrated and healthy looking skin in no time.

DRY SKIN

Signs and symptoms of dry skin can include:

  • rough texture & flakiness
  • itchiness
  • fine lines
  • feeling of tightness
  • makeup looks patchy

Causes that may cause dry skin can include:

  • sun exposure
  • hot water (think shower temperature)
  • dehydration (lack of water)
  • medication
  • in consistent skincare routine

By having a consistent skincare routine, for both your face and your body, you will see these signs begin to disappear.  The key is consistency and using products that have ingredients in them that address your dry skin condition specifically. So, let me help you know what to look for in a dry skincare solution.

Ingredients to keep an eye out for are:

  • Algae extract – hydrates & softens
  • Humectants – binds moisture to skin
  • Moringa Oil – smoothes & de-puffs
  • Jojoba – soothes & calms
  • Almond Oil – skin feels silky, but not greasy
  • Vitamin E – antioxident for healthy skin maintenance
  • Ginger Root – protects skin

WHAT SKINCARE SHOULD I BE USING?

In my opinion, a basic skincare routine should consistent of 5 things. This is a starting place. Our skincare is as important at 20 as it is in our mature years. You can never start caring for your skin too early…..trust me, I wish I had started earlier!

Your daily routine should include a cleanser, a moisturiser for day and a moisturiser for night (they are different, see below), an eye cream and a lip balm. These fab 5 items are for all skin types, including oily, acne, normal and dry.

There are other products to address specific concerns, but let’s just get our basics right first.

Why do I need two moisturisers? Glad you asked!  Daytime and evening moisturisers offer different moisturising qualities. A daytime moisturiser is generally a lighter, thinner consistency and can be worn under makeup while balancing moisture and naturally hydrating skin. Whereas an evening cream is most often a thicker consistency with added ingredients to not only continue to hydrate, but to protect and rejuvenate skin while resting your face overnight.

Skincare is simple and needs to be done morning and evening to get best results.

Step 1 – Remove makeup with a makeup remover

Step 2 – Cleanse (even if you don’t wear makeup. Remove that dirt and grime from your face from the day and night – you would be surprised how much lands on your face overnight!) I use a 3 n 1 Cleanser that cleanses, tones and mildly exfoliates

Step 3 – Moisturise face

Step 4 – Moisturise lips (I swear by this shea butter balm)
