Has your makeup expired?

S P R I N G is the perfect time to clean out your makeup bag, drawers and cupboards

Not only is it a great time to update with some stunning new Spring and Summer shades but if you tend to buy makeup and wear it only occasionally you might be surprised how long you’ve actually had it for. So if you use the below as a guide you should stay on track to maintaining a hygienic makeup bag and a Photo Finish Makeup look.

Foundation – 6 – 12 months (particularly if liquid)
Concealer – 6 months
Powders (blush, eyeshadows) – 1 – 2 years
Lipsticks & glosses – 12 months
Mascara & gel liners – 3 – 4 months

What about organic makeup? Does it have the same expiry?
Organic makeup has a life of no more than 6 months.

What happens to your skin when you use expired makeup?
The molecules in makeup products can break down into something else, and you can have a reaction to it. Using an expired beauty product could cause skin infections, breakouts, dry skin, eye infections and rashes. You may experience irritation in response to the molecule breakdown and it could lead to inflammation of the skin, which can in turn lead to redness, bumps, a rash, or even blisters and swelling of the skin.

This applies to sunscreen too, so now is a perfect time to replace last years sunscreen. If your sunscreen has begun to separate it will have lost the all important SPF element, giving you no protection from the sun.
